| 18 Aug 2006 | Lena *Hellen* Iachoukova | Loading...Haha! I got the joke: why would a sea creature use an umbrella as a shelter from rain? =) Thats really nice, I like how the whole picture is done in the same cold marine blue color scheme. Dont know why Im saying that, but this picture reminded of one short cartoon (back from the USSR era) that had a mermaid character signing while holding an umbrella in her arm. Helle Jorgensen replies: "Yes, the idea just came to me spontaneously a few days ago, and I couldn't let go of the paradoxical concept of a mermaid with an umbrella - I had to do a picture. Mind you, I thought I was being pretty clever here, but of course someone else would have gotten the idea before me ... ;p. Partly this one was also done precisely because I wanted to make a picture where the colour scheme wasn't quite as bright and merry as on my recent watercolour pencil pieces. So I'm glad to hear that you like the colours! " | |
| 19 Aug 2006 | Vincent James Bernardo | Loading...Great to see this piece up and running! Looks really good! (I sound really unhelpful with these wierd comments...) Helle Jorgensen replies: "Well, you've been sufficiently helpful already, with your handy criticisms on the final adjustment of borders and digital enhancement before I uploaded the picture! Thanks!" | |
| 30 Aug 2006 | Anne .Inkeri.Anu Hänninen | Loading...Well choosen colours endeed! And I love the concept... *giggles* You seems to have a natural talent for watercolours, keep on using them! Helle Jorgensen replies: "Well, with compliments such as these, how could I stop using watercolours?! I'll do my best to continue, now that I've finally started. I've had some weeks off here in August and have finally had time to play around with drawing and painting techniques. From Friday I start work again, but I do hope I'll still find time to practice!" | |
| 8 Mar 2008 | Green Phoenix | Loading...It’s not every day you see a mermaid with an umbrella. Nice use of colour, although you could easily love it just for the strangeness of the concept. ~#G Helle Jorgensen replies: "Thanks! I don’t do nearly enough watercolour pictures, but a nice comment like this is an encouragement to keep trying. Strange concepts, on the other hand, seeem to come rather naturally to me !" | |
| 11 Jun 2008 | Jess Owen | Loading...Ha ha! I love that she has an umbrella...whata wonderful idea. All the colors in this are just wonderful - great for first time with brushes! Great job with the movement of the water and the rain. Helle Jorgensen replies: "Thanks! I was quite happy with this one myself. Strangely, everything just seemed to work as intended when I did it, in spite of my lack of practice with watercolours. " | |
| 6 Oct 2008 | Heidi Hecht | Loading...It’s pretty funny that the mermaid has an umbrella. Not bad, maybe she’s trying to keep somebody else dry, but it did make me smile. Helle Jorgensen replies: "Seriously, it’s just me: Actually I once saw a thumbnail picture that at first glance appeared to me to be a mermaid under water, holding an umbrella (!) Needless to say, when I clicked the picture it turned out to be something else entirely. (I admit it: I have poor eyesight and my mind works in mysterious ways). By then, of course, the idea of mermaids with umbrellas was already firmly lodged in my brain. What to do? " | |
| 8 Nov 2008 | Désirée Dippenaar | Loading...I love the umbrella - that really is a very original idea and I think adds a lot to the picture! Great colouring, too - the clouds look very real, and I like the colour of the sea. Great picture~ Helle Jorgensen replies: "Thanks - I was very pleased with the result of the colouring myself, since I haven’t worked all that much with watercolours. As for the concept - well, I just have this predilection for slightly paradoxical motives; it appeals to my sense of humour." | |
| 28 Apr 2009 | Lava velu | Loading...the mermaid is so cute .....i am actually imagining the whole picture in more bright blueeees.....yeah i kinda like it that way....i think rain can be pictured more brightly......itz so lovely cheers mate
Helle Jorgensen replies: "Happy that you like her. I chose the colours to reflect a slightly melancholic autumnal mood. A similar picture with brighter colours would be nice, for sure, but it would probably appear more cheery or naive in style, and thus look very different. Maybe I should do such a version of the picture one day. But then I already have my gardening mermaid with a watering can, which is more in that style ... "
| 9 Sep 2009 | Yoni Danziger | Loading...Lovely piece Helle! I feel cold all of a sudden
lol and the umbrella at the hands of the mermaid, that’s a great idea, very witty
Helle Jorgensen replies: "Thanks! Yeah, I thought that I was being pretty clever with this motive, but as it later turns out, there are others here and there who have thought of something similar - just look at Lena’s comment. On a sidenote I’m still trying to come to terms with the fact that autumn is coming up yet again, which means that I’m set up for more weather like this... but maybe the autumn colours will prove inspiring."
| 4 Oct 2009 | Anke Wehner | Loading...Lovely concept and colourscheme Helle Jorgensen replies: "Thanks! Most of the last weekend I had continual rain and wind just like that. Maybe it will inspire more autumnal pictures " | |
