Hah, I like your new picture this much that I even don’t see any anatomy flaws here!
Both frame and this dark tree in the background look very, should I say, “stylish”.
The wings… well, now I see what you were talking about. The wings still look very nice(I’m trying to imagine a crow body in place of the one of a human. It fits well!). I just suggest you drawing more smaller feathers and make the “big” feathers more refined. There is no any secret in creating good-looking wings! 10

:-) Helle Jorgensen replies: "Well, coming from a specialist such as yourself, a compliment on a winged creature is twice the pleasure 12! And I'll probably get better at the details with some practice. The hard thing is to find the time! (I've changed job and moved recently, so I've been busy with a lot of other things than drawing, though I've been sorry for my lack of gallery updates. But now I've signed up for an evening class course in acrylics and oil painting, starting next week, so perhaps I'll finally get some more pictures done.)"

Good to know you haven't left this site for good... 1

Your pieces are becoming more detailed and a lot cleaner. I'm imagining how your drawings would look like after your lessons are finished... 12

:-) Helle Jorgensen replies: "Ahh, yes, the lack of updates was beginning to embarrass me, but I've been so busy with the so-called "real life issues" during the last months ;p. I suppose working with ink does result in cleaner pieces, so perhaps I should use it more. It's a more unforgiving medium than pencils though ... "

I’ve just toured through your gallery and I definitely like this one the best. Having worked on the illustrations of birds, I can appreciate the challenges of capturing their detail. Combining it with the human form must be even more so. It looks almost as if you used Medusa or at least were thinking about her when you drew the head. Great work!

:-) Helle Jorgensen replies: "Thanks for stopping by! If you like this one the best, hopefully it's a sign that my skills are still improving. I can see what you mean about the hair. I wasn't particularly thinking about Medusa, but I definetely wanted to create a dramatic effect. As for wings, you're right: the details on feathers are hard to recreate, but probably the biggest challenge is to make the wings seem a credible part of the overall anatomy, particularly in the way they are attached to the character's back. I think I've a bit of way to go before I pull that off properly, mainly because I haven't practiced much on wings yet."

Very ferocius, just like a harpy should be. You've done a good job with the wings and with the expresion on the face. Oh yes and nice shading too.

:-) Helle Jorgensen replies: "You've no idea how happy I am to get a compliment on the wings! Actually this drawing has been sitting half finished on my sketching pad for a couple of months, mostly because I couldn't do a satisfying job on the wings to begin with. It required a fair bit of re-sketching to get her to take wing. All the other details were fairly straight-forward to do."

You mentioned in your bio that you read comics, that wouldn't include "Hellboy" would it?

cause the tree in the background's drawn/inked very much in the style of the comic.

that's not a criticism, by the way, just an observation.

I like this picture allot, but mostly for the composition, very stylish.

it promises/suggests an exciting future 1

:-) Helle Jorgensen replies: "Actually I'm quite fond of horror comics generally, so yes, I have read "Hellboy" too. Clever of you to spot it ... I probably wouldn't have gone for such a sharp all-black shading of the tree if I hadn't had some inspiration. Still, a tree is one thing ... I'm sure I couldn't do a character piece in anything like the bold style of "Hellboy", even if you beat me with a stick. But perhaps my usual (more messy and sketchy) style will do allright."

This is my favorite piece of yours and one of the best hurpy that I have ever see before!!!

:-) Helle Jorgensen replies: "Why, that’s a compliment; thanks! It seems that harpies are quite rarely depicted here on Elfwood, in spite of being such interesting creatures."

This is a great depiction of a harpy. You’ve done a fantastic job capturing its scariness. I also like the way the shading at the top corner, gives the feel of clouds in the distance.

:-) Helle Jorgensen replies: "Thanks! Doing her face and body went smoothly, but the wings gave occasion for a fair bit of trial and error. The cloud effect is mostly a happy coincidence - at most I was aiming to make the bottom of the picture a bit darker than the top (shh!)"

One of the best harpys I´ve ever seen.

:-) Helle Jorgensen replies: "Hehe! That’s certainly a compliment; thanks!"
